Recovery Week: The Asylum: Game Day - Say What?

I know that I am in a recovery week and have talked about the necessity to reboot and recovery before going into the "endurance" phase of P90X2. You're probably wondering why in the world I selected INSANITY: THE ASYLUM'S "GAME DAY" for my workout today. This is absolutely one of Shaun T.'s hardest and longest workouts period!

Let me explain...

I had two very light workouts the past couple of days. I listened to my body. I was feeling physically rundown and knew that I needed to take it easy with some stretching and rolling on Tuesday and a very light circuit style weight session on Wednesday. It worked! For I woke up this morning feeling exceptionally strong and energetic. Since I am heading out of town tomorrow morning with my wife for a weekend getaway I know that I will splurge much more than usual. We will be in Savannah, GA. There is no doubt that I'm going to have a few more craft brews than normal. I will also indulge in some highly caloric, decadently rich foods while vacationing this weekend (Paula Deen's hometown... Seriously! How can I not?). Knowing full well that I am going to play this weekend and with my energy level very high today, I wanted a workout that would hit everything (high caloric burn, cardio conditioning, strength and endurance training). Game Day accomplishes all of this.

***A very important point comes to mind*** BALANCE AND ENJOYING LIFE! I am a very real guy. It's true that I love to workout and workout hard. But, I am also a foodie and craft beer lover. I have found a balance that works perfectly for my lifestyle. I incorporate a 90/10 rule with my nutrition. 90% of the time I prefer to avoid processed rice, wheat, pasta, breads, sugars and chose to eat non-processed, whole, organic nutrient rich foods like fruits, nuts, veggies, greens, beans and lean meats. This is how I feel the best, stay lean and adequately fuel my workouts. However, 10% of the time I like to play! I incorporate my playtime whenever it fits my schedule (like this weekend). My playtime is when I chose to sensibly enjoy craft beer and  more decadent foods. Find a balance point that makes you happy and fulfilled. Life is short. Everyone can get healthy and have fun with it at the same time. All you have to do is decide, commit and succeed!
