P90X2 Recovery Week: Shoulders & Arms Modified
I am at the midpoint of my recovery week today. Each day this week I have allowed myself the freedom to pick an appropriate DVD from my fitness arsenal based on what I feel is necessary in order for me to recuperate and become most productive prior to commencing the final "endurance" phase of P90X2.
As an example: Yesterday, I was physically and mentally fried. I didn't even have the energy for yoga. So, I selected "Relief" from INSANITY - THE ASYLUM. "Relief" is an awesome 20 minute stretching routine that hits everything in a very therapeutic way. Afterwards, I used my rumble roller to work out some remaining knots and kinks. This was perfect medicine for me.
Today I felt like lifting weights, but I also wanted to elevate my heart rate for some light cardio conditioning. I decided to do P90X2 Shoulder & Arms. I acknowledged the fact that I am in a recovery week. So honoring my goal of recuperation I modified the routine in the following way: I took out the balance component and used light weight for high reps. I also skipped ahead through Tony's chatter to make for a very rapid circuit style workout. This effectively increased my heart rate and kept it up for the duration of the routine. It was a great workout. I accomplished my goals of light lifting and light conditioning.
