- Plyometric training is where a muscle is first loaded or stretched and then contracted. More scientifically stated, exercises where there is first an eccentric muscle contraction, then immediately followed by an explosive concentric contraction.
- This is important because plyometric training is one of the best ways (if not the best way) to improve power. Power is a function of both strength and speed. Through plyometric training your athletic performance greatly improves.
- Plyometric training enhances neuromuscular proprioception (joint stability and mobility).
- Through Plyometric training you'll burn more calories during your workout and increase your anaerobic threshold. This means that your endurance, strength, performance and aerobic base will all improve.
Today was Day 30 of my P90X hybrid. I did Insanity The Asylum's "Vertical Plyo". This is honestly the hardest workout that I have ever done. It is relentless, but super efficient and effective. This is a pure example of plyometric training.
