Overindulgence and P90X2 Recovery & Mobility

Quick shot of last nights bison burgers! Wow they were outstanding! However, my enthusiasm about last nights meal stops there. Oh yeah, it is Sunday morning and I overindulged in a big way last night. You see, my  best friend and often times nemesis are nuts. I'm talking about cashews, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, pecans, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, almonds and... well you get the idea. I LOVE THEM ALL. Obviously the nutritional value of nuts is not the issue at all. They are packed full of healthy fats, protein and fiber. It is a VOLUME thing for me. Just like the potato chip ad, "bet you can't eat just one", that is exactly my problem. Once I start, I've had it! Magically, I seem to consume entire cans, bags, jars, handfuls... well you get the picture. The result is that I did not sleep well because I ate waaaaaay too much and my stomach aches! The point that I want to make is this: This is life. Real life. It happens. The important thing to keep in mind is that you acknowledge what you did, accept it, own it, pick up and move forward. That is exactly what I will do today. Starting right NOW. Each moment is a new moment, a new beginning and a chance to get back on course with whatever your goals are in life. For me, that means eating much lighter today to balance out the impact from last night. Also, completing Recovery & Mobility and providing my body with the much needed rest that is required from a full week of hardcore workouts.

Pick yourself up and keep moving forward!  Onward and upwards my friends.  Enjoy your day!

  1. Great blog! I can relate to overdoing it and the need to balance. I do have one question; what is the advantage of eating bison burgers instead of extra lean ground beef? is it better for workouts? Tastes better? Why bison instead of turkey or tofu?

  2. Ground Bison vs. Ground Beef

Bison, the Healthier Red Meat - 3oz...

Calories 152, Total Fat 7 grams (3 grams saturated fat)
Excellent protein with 40 grams, which is 84% of the daily value (DV) in a 2,000-calorie diet.
Ground bison is high in vitamin B6 17% DV, B12 35% DV and niacin 25% DV

Ground beef 3 oz. 85% lean, 15% fat

Calories 210 Total Fat 12 grams (6 grams saturated fat)
Good protein with 21 grams, which is 43% of the daily value (DV) in a 2,000-calorie diet.
The two biggest negatives are that beef is high in cholesterol with 75 milligrams or 24% of the daily value. Beef is also high in saturated fats with 6 grams, which is double the amount found in grass fed bison.
Ground beef is high in vitamin B6 15% DV, B12 36% DV and niacin 24% DV.
Of course, the nutritional values of the ground beef would change favorably with lower fat content.

Personal preference really. I prefer the taste over beef and the extra health benefits are bonus! Oh yeah, both turkey and tofu are great, but not when I am craving a burger!
