The Paleo Challenge, 3 Week Amazing Results!

Our Paleo Challenge, 3 Weeks In and the Results Are Amazing!
By: Brett Thornton  Full Functional Fitness  3/5/13

35 People Signed Up 3 Weeks Ago, All Have Stuck With It!

We started a Paleo Challenge 3 weeks ago, we’re just now over the halfway point and I wanted to share what we have seen happen so far!

Success Stories

The following are Success Stories from the group in just 3 weeks!
Jason S., Charlotte NC  Down 10 lbs!
Best testimonial I can give is that the group keeps me holding myself accountable. I feel like we are all in this together and I don’t want to let my team down. I don’t feel like I am in it alone and that goes a long way.
Also, nice to have folks in the same situation as I am. Really helps to be able to say no thanks to that basket of dinner rolls when I know that other people are also saying no thanks, even if their dinner table is 1000 miles away from mine.
Bottom line, without the group I don’t think I would have made it this far and that anybody who is serious about losing weight and/or living a more healthy lifestyle would benefit from a support system like this one.
Brody C. from Canada:
Brody C. from Canada:
Ever since I started the scale hadn’t moved much because of some muscle building going on, sculpting up some. My workouts seem more smoother, I seem to have more sustainable energy to push through. Less bloating because of getting rid of the grains and dairy. Overall I feel really good all the time, and its a fun lifestyle to live! Lots of experimentation with different foods and knowing your fueling your body with stuff it really wants!
Alyssia M. from Wisconsin:
At first I lost a couple pounds or so during the first week. Dropped to 153. As I continued to eat right, I tried not to focus too much on the scale. Not only did I notice, but my boyfriend noticed that I’m gaining muscle and looking more buff like, lol. I’ve also noticed that I’m losing more inches, but keeping my muscle mass. Overall I just feel healthier and my body is saying “Thank you!” for feeding it nutritious foods. As for fitness, I gave Insanity a shot this morning by doing Cardio Circuit to switch things up a bit. I’ve noticed a huge difference cardiovascular wise. Almost made it through the warm-up without taking breaks and that’s hard to do. I can honestly say I’m glad I picked up this lifestyle and explored more with different types of foods, getting creative with dishes, etc. Definitely worth the change in the long run.
Dave W. from San Diego CA
For me it has just made things really easy. Eat this. Don’t eat that. Focus on your carb intake. Eat more when you are working out really hard or really long and eat less when you are not. I just think it is the easiest plan to understand and implement. Beyond that it is super effective. Effortless weight maintenance. I lost 2 pounds on a cruise! 2 pounds on a cruise! I simply kept my carb intake really low by avoiding grains and pretty much ate whatever else I wanted. Again…it’s the Easy Button of nutrition.
In the last 3 weeks, we’ve had women who have lost 11 lbs, 8 lbs and more importantly, lost inches!  One lady in our group, said she has had 5 guys ask her out in the past couple of weeks due to her self confidence increasing with her weight loss, that my friends you can’t put a price tag on.

What’s Involved With the Paleo Challenge?

With the Paleo Challenge workouts are OPTIONAL, we give you 2 cheat meals a week on the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights).  We have book that we use (available on Amazon for $9, $4 on Kindle) that helps introduce you to the lifestyle and if ween you off the processed food, if that’s needed.  We show you how it’s an easy lifestyle that you can adopt and stick with.  You will be plugged into a private Facebook group along with other challengers and coaches who will support you 24/7.  You will have my cell phone number as well as Todd (fellow coach running it with me) for complete support when you need it.

Shakeology

We will also put you on an amazing product called Shakeology, you are only required to use it for the duration of the challenge (5 weeks) and it's up to you if you decide to continue after that. Most people stay on it after they realize the health benefits and how they good they feel while on it, and as you can tell, the stories speak for themselves. It increases your weight loss success as well as being an all natural health shake that also compliments the Paleo lifestyle. It will regulate things like blood sugar, cholesterol, cravings and much more. Most of the challengers picked the chocolate flavor, so there's your chocolate fix for the day! Here's more on Shakeology:

The cost of Shakeology is $119 which is $4 a day.  If you just watched that video, you understand the value it offers, plus it’s cheaper than Starbucks, McDonald’s or even Subway’s $5 foot long.  IF YOU DON’T like it after giving it 2 weeks, send it back and get a full refund, it has a 30 day money back guarantee.  We have 35 people in this group that can attest to it’s benefits, I repeat, 35!  But if after 2 weeks, you don’t like it (and you gave it a fair shot) we’ll still keep you in the challenge and you can send it back!

Additional Support and Free Videos

In addition to the support of the group, you will have access to Todd and I (coaches leading the group) as well as others, you will have our cell numbers and full access to us anytime you need it, as well as the private Facebook group for support.  As you can tell the bond that is formed is priceless.

FREE WORKOUT VIDEO!

We will also be sending you FREE workout videos like the one above (requiring no equipment and completely optional) and occasionally some recipe videos that you can use at home to make life easier and maximize your fitness goals.  If you are already doing a program like P90X, Insanity, or Asylum, this will fit in perfectly with your workouts and help you drop the pounds even quicker!

Are You Up for the Challenge?!?

If you’re tired of being stuck in a plateau, if you’re sick of feeling tired and lethargic, if you hate exercise and just want to focus on your nutrition or want to incorporate proper nutrition into your workouts, then this Challenge Group is for you!
All you have to do is CONTACT us today, we are ready to include you and show you what is possible with the right plan and support.
Look forward to hearing from you soon! Take care!
Brett

THE PROBLEM WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP!

Here's the problem.... It's literally killing us! High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is in almost every type of processed food imaginable. If you don't believe me, try this: Simply visit any grocery store in America and pick up bottles, canned goods and boxed goods at random and read the ingredients labels. You will be amazed. HFCS is seemingly in everything that is mass produced, packaged and shipped. You'll find it in your syrup, jam, jelly, salad dressing, ketchup, soup, BBQ sauce, breakfast cereal, bread, crackers, so-called "nutrition" bars, cakes, cookies, snacks, sodas and energy drinks. It's everywhere! There's no need to worry about a giant asteroid colliding with our planet, a tsunami, an earthquake or nuclear war causing the annihilation of mankind. HFCS is doing a fine job making our species extinct on it's own. The crazy thing is that we're doing it to ourselves. It's time to wake up! Check out the graph below:

HFCS has been used by the food industry since the 1970's. Food manufacturers discovered that HFCS is sweeter than common table sugar, less expensive to produce and will act as a preservative. The problem lies in the fact that the body cannot metabolize the excessive amount of fructose that is found in HFCS as compared to common sugar. This is a major concern. Here are some of the potential problems that can arise from excessive fructose in our diet:

  • Obesity
  • Elevated triglyceride levels
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Gout
  • Type II diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome.
So, what can you do about it?
  • The easiest thing to do is stop consuming sodas and all sweetened drinks with HFCS.
  • Make a practice of reading product labels carefully. Avoid any item with HFCS. It is possible to find processed items that are 'clean' with minimal preservatives and no HFCS.
  • Do your best to cut back on items containing any type of sugar. Your body will thank you.
  • Monitor your blood pressure, blood sugar and lipid levels. Maintain a healthy BMI.
  • Write a letter to congress and  to food manufacturers. Vote with your wallet! Demand more healthful products.
It's time to start taking care of you. Educate yourself on healthy eating and start moving and exercising today! You are absolutely worth it!

WHAT IS THE MIND? HOW DOES MIND APPLY TO YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS?

Mind. What is it? Where is it? Is it tangible? Is it the brain? Is it biologically based and material? Is it spiritual and ethereal? By now, you're probably wondering how this relates to your health and fitness goals. Hang with me for a minute, I'm getting there, I promise...

We live in two worlds simultaneously; an outer world and an inner world. The outer world is seemingly pragmatic and objective. However, it is always subjectively perceived. This is where complication and confusion can arise. One would think that the outer world is simple and obvious. You can touch it, hear it, smell it, taste it, see it and yet two people comprehending the same object at the same time may come up with two strikingly different opinions about it. Why is that? Our perceptions and inner world can dramatically cloud or enhance what we perceive in the present moment. We are all influenced by our past experiences and future expectations. We all have a filter that we view the world through. Our filters are as individual and unique as each and every one of us. Our filters are a product of our individual genetic makeup and our environment (parents, teachers, schools, government, culture, religion, work, friends, siblings, television, marketing, the media, etc.). Our inner world, the world of thought and emotion is incredibly complex and infinite. How many thoughts have you had while reading this blog post? How have your thoughts effected and affected what you are now reading?

My point is that our mind is the most powerful tool that we possess. Like any tool, it can be constructive or destructive. It's crucial to develop the ability to discern between limiting states of mind and expansive states of mind. It's essential to believe in yourself and love yourself. Believe and know that you create your future and your own reality. You do this by maintaining awareness of the present moment. This means monitoring your thoughts, beliefs and all of the choices that you continually make. As human beings we must strive to consistently keep positive and optimistic beliefs, make life enhancing choices, set clear goals, specific tasks and then take immediate action towards accomplishing our heart's desire.

Decide right now, in this very moment what you really want out of life. Decide to do something positive and good for yourself. Go for a walk, meditate, jog, lift weights, put down that bag of chips and soda. Instead pick up an apple and a glass of water. It's your mind. It's your life. Decide right now to begin creating the life of your dreams! You can do anything you want to do and become whatever you want to become. All you have to do is make up your mind and go for it!

THE IMPORTANCE OF VARIETY IN YOUR FITNESS:

Why put variety in your fitness? Here are just a few reasons to contemplate...

1. Most importantly is this; we are all individuals. Each of us has unique strengths and weaknesses to be embraced and improved upon. That's what makes the world move and keeps life interesting! In fitness, as in life, find what makes you tick. Find what motivates you and feels good. Do what treats your body, mind and spirit with honor and respect. You'll know when you've found it.

2. No one fitness program is the end-all-be-all. Each program, or fitness system has it's own benefits and rewards. Think about your current goals. Are you training for something sports specific? Do you want to add muscle and size? Do you hope to get lean and drop some pounds? Maybe you want to be able to play with your children or grandchildren? The point is to understand exactly what it is that you want to accomplish. Once you're clear about your goals, be flexible with the means to attain them. Make a point to learn about different fitness programs and methods of exercise. Don't be afraid to try something new. The sky's the limit!

3. Variety prevents boredom and leads to long-term fitness success. Enough said.

4. Putting variety in your fitness will prevent the dreaded plateau effect. If you have been doing the same routine for months or years and you wonder why your gains have stopped, you've plateaued. It's important to keep your muscles and cardiovascular system challenged with new programs and exercise routines. You'll work different energy systems and continue to progress. Believe me when I tell you that this is the true fountain of youth.

5. Have fun! There are so many programs, machines, routines, DVD's, sports, and outdoor activities in our  wonderful world that there really is no excuse to get fit and stay fit. The only thing standing in your way is you. Your own mind. It's your choice. Either you tell yourself that you can or you can't. Now's the time to take action and honor yourself! Be good to yourself! Love yourself! You are worth it! Let's go!

Asylum Volume 2 / Body Beast Hybrid: Day 4 - Back and 6 Pack + Bulk Back

Day 4 and enter the BEAST!!!

Today I did Back and 6 Pack from Asylum Volume 2 and immediately rolled into Bulk Back from Body Beast. I'm not going to lie to you, this was hard. I love it though. I got in my pull-ups, core training, cardio and heavy lifting all at once.

This hybrid combined functional strength and endurance training with serious weight lifting. It was quite a challenge and made for an awesome workout.  Now, it's time to eat and replenish my body. I just burned up some serious calories!
